    Hi and thanks for the review. Does this Razer blade have problems like the Razer blade 2022 AMD edition to connect from USB4 to displayport? It turns out that in that model the USB4 ports only connect to the internal AMD graphics and not to the Nvidia video card, in order to use the Nvidia video card only the HDMI 2.1 port works and because of this i cant' use the gsync and the high refresh rates of my external monitor since most monitors are capable of using gsync and high refresh rates only via displayport

      Thunderbolt spec has PD specs for up to 15w for Thunderbolt accessories. For USB devices, the USB standard for power is utilized, typically up to 7.5w. So yes, all part of the Thunderbolt spec as far as how the PD behaves.

    Why does thunderbolt suck so bad on windows? I’ve just used it for the first time and I can’t figure anything out. There’s one software called “thunderbolt control center” and when I plug devices in- nothing actually shows up there, but device manager does indeed sees them as pci express devices 😂. macOS gives you so much more information in system profiler. Trying to troubleshoot this is maddening. I don’t even see any events in the event viewer. Is there some other thunderbolt app / utility that I should be using on windows?

    • @nickyjay2009
      @nickyjay2009 7 месяцев назад

      I have found there to be an issue with the handshake between the Windows and the thunderbolt card. I find that if I have all connected devices switched off on boot, there is a better chance of the ports showing up in the thunderbolt control centre, although this is still hit and miss. I would be interested to hear what other people's work arounds for this is.

    • @5urg3x
      @5urg3x 7 месяцев назад

      @@nickyjay2009 Even with my devices that actually show up in device manager, you’re absolutely right - I have to have them turned on and plugged in before I even turn on the computer! Otherwise the thunderbolt chip on the host disables itself and goes to sleep and won’t wake up. What a joke. I guess this tech really does suck unless you’re using a Mac. I swear I’ve never had any issues using Intel or Apple silicon Macs with Thunderbolt. Nothing like what I’m seeing on a PC! This is downright embarassing for Intel.

    When connecting an external monitor to an egpu, will it be possible to also get 3x the bandwidth like with monitors because the video only shows 2x bandwidth for egpus. Since with an external monitor there should be almost no significant data traffic back to the laptop right?

    • @GetThunderbolt
      @GetThunderbolt 7 месяцев назад

      You're still limited to 160Gbps in total with 80Gbps for data and 80Gbps for video. So when you use the bandwidth boost for 120Gbps on a monitor, that only leaves 40Gbps for the eGPU to utilize, so your speeds will be more limited versus using a monitor setup that doesn't require bandwidth boost allowing you the full 80Gbps of bandwidth for the eGPU.

    That's amazing! Can't wait to check it out already :) I'm very interested in the topic of eGPU and I'm preparing a second video about it now. I have accumulated questions that I can't find answers to on the internet, maybe you could give me some pointers? - In the case of eGPU, what exactly is the bandwidth needed for? For rendering images depending on the screen resolution? But for 4k@120, only 2.7Gbps is required. - Or is this bandwidth needed more for communication between CPU & GPU? If so, can TB5 solve this problem? But then it's not quite clear why in one game RTX4090 gives about 600fps, and in another game will be statters and no more than 80fps (the problem is not the CPU, it works better on the laptop's graphics card). - I heard about the role of controller. Isn't it the reason why we get reduced performance from video cards? If so, how will it work with TB5? I will be very glad and grateful if you can answer at least one of the questions

    • @GetThunderbolt
      @GetThunderbolt 9 месяцев назад

      The bandwidth requirement for rendering images depends on the screen resolution and refresh rate. Higher resolutions and refresh rates require more bandwidth to transfer the necessary data to the GPU for processing. For example, 4K@120Hz requires approximately 2.7Gbps of bandwidth, but if you increase the resolution or refresh rate, the bandwidth requirement will also increase. This is because more data needs to be transferred between the CPU and GPU to render the images at higher quality and smoother motion. The bandwidth is also important for communication between the CPU and GPU. The GPU needs to receive data from the CPU and send back the processed frames to be displayed on the screen. If the bandwidth is not sufficient, it can lead to bottlenecks and performance issues. The Thunderbolt 5 (TB5) technology has the potential to address this problem by providing higher bandwidth and faster data transfer rates. However, it's important to note that the performance of the eGPU is not solely dependent on the bandwidth; other factors like the CPU, GPU, and software optimization also play a significant role. The role of the controller in eGPUs is to manage the data transfer between the CPU, GPU, and other components. It acts as an intermediary between the host system and the external GPU. While the controller does introduce some overhead, modern eGPU implementations have become more efficient, minimizing the performance impact. With the introduction of TB5, which offers higher bandwidth, it is expected that the controller's impact on performance will be further reduced.

      @@GetThunderbolt Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me! Regarding 1 & 2. But that's only if we use the laptop's built-in monitor, right? As far as I know, if we use an external monitor connected directly to the eGPU, then in this case the bandwidth will be used only for one way data transfer from CPU -> TB4 => GPU -> external monitor.

      @@trysometech52 4K @ 120 Hz is not extremely performance heavy so I don't see sharing the bandwidth as being an issue. It's just important to keep in mind that your most performance hungry device should be first in the daisy chain for optimal results.

    Considering Thunderbolt 4 was a joke, about freaking time! You know your connection is slow when HDMI out specs you for 3 years.
